RISK ASSESSMENT FOR PREPARING SHISHA PIPES FOR SMOKEING.

 

Workplace:

  • Area to have sink close by with cold water.
  • Non flammable work surface, for example, stainless or ceramic preparation area.

 

Hazard/Risk:

  • Glass base bowl breaking (by dropping)
  • Clay bowl breaking (while placing on the shisha pipe)
  • Shisha Lite (Charcoal) falling onto body or floor area once lit.
  • Germs spreading via the mouth tip.

 

Persons Exposed:

  • Shisha Pipe employees setting up the shisha pipe
  • Customers in 1 meter radius of the working shisha pipe
  • Customers within 10 meters from passive smoking.

 

Existing Control Measures:

  • Employ professional person to set up and distribute the shisha pipes
  • Provide stainless tongs to handle the shisha lite charcoal.
  • Provide mouth tips or foil for each person smoking the shisha pipe

 

Level of Risk:

m Smoke in lungs (High risk of lung cancer)

m People close by inhaling the smoke (Passive Smoking)

m   Risk of fire

Further Control Measures/Actions Required:

  • Customer smoking the shisha pipe does not move the location of the shisha pipe
  • Customer is aware that smoking can damage your health
  • Customers allow the shisha pipe server to reposition the shisha lite charcoal
  • Tray provided with the shisha pipe to catch charcoal.
  • Tin foil used around the clay bowl to protect shisha lite from falling.
  • Wind cover to be used to stop falling charcoal or skin exposed to charcoal.

Alcohol intake of the client / customer

Moving the shisha pipe to a different location

Unstable positioning of the Shisha Pipe.

Site supervision, Personal Protective Equipment including wind cover
